Message from Bill Colgrave.
The following funeral notice appeared in the Cairns post this morning. I never look but my wife does so I would have missed it.
NEWBERY Herbert George late of Cairns aged 57 years> Much loved husband of Jan etc. The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon 25/06/2005 at 2.00pm. Past and present members of the Australian Air Force are respectfully invited to attend.
By family request. donations to the Queensland Cancer Foundation, in lieu of flowers would be greatly appreciated.
I have not seen Herb for about 15 years but did know he lived here (Cairns) and operated taxis. I was reminded of him when he submitted the article about John Kozlyk. I am assuming there is only one Herb Newbury?

I had the privilege of knowing & working with Herb for many years of my 12 year service. I was at Amberley (482Sqn) when he was at 3AD. Then we were in Butterworth together, then Darwin. Herb, Jan & family shared their house with many fellow workers. It would not be unusual for Herb & Jan to invite the singlies around for dinner & of course many beers would flow after. Darwin was a very memorable time for us. Herb & Jan used to have a part time business, cafe in the mall. We would also play competition ten pin bowling, Herb & Jan, Dick Flack & Jan, Herb/Jan's business partners & myself & my now ex wife. Herb had a dream of owning a taxi business, & he fulfilled that dream in Cairns. Herb was full of joy, fun, loving, caring & a true Armament Fitter. The Armament trade will miss a great man with so much character.
Thank you Herb for the memories, God Bless you. Jan & family, please take this as my sincere THANK YOU for the fun times we had, may God Bless you & take care of you forever. I will always remember.
