No 22 RAAF Armament Fitter Course

Dave, died of a hear attack in 1992.

He wrote the following ODE, whilst in Malaysia, sometime in 1965-1968

ODE TO THE ARMYMINT TRADE
or
“BAN THE BOMBERS”

IF YOU’RE THINKING OF THE AIR FORCE
TO MAKE YOUR JOB FOR LIFE
THEN BEST YOU RECONSIDER
YOU’LL GET “STUFF ALL” BUT STRIFE.

OH TO BE A “FRAYMEE”
NOW PROMOTIONS HERE
GET MY HOOKS IN TEN (10)
INSTEAD OF twenty YEARS.

THOSE WALLAHS DOWN AT AIR BOARD
ALL SITTIN’ IN THE SUN
WHEN PROMOTION TIME DRAWS NEAR
‘SHOUT’ UP THE ARMOURERS’ BUM.

CHECK THE GUNNIES’ MORALE GRAPH
YOU’LL FIND MORALE’S ALIVE
IN FACT THE START OF EVERY MONTH
IT’S MINUS 95.

BUT STILL I’D NEVER LEAVE IT
WOULD SURELY BE MY RUIN
‘CAUSE IF I LEFT THE “PLUMBERS’ TRADE”
I MIGHT KNOW WHAT I’M DOIN’.

I HEARD A FUNNY STORY
BUT I DON’T KNOW IF IT’S TRUE
I HEARD THERE WERE PROMOTIONS
IN 1952.

THEY CALLED US UP TO GET OUR ‘OOKS
TO PROVE THEIR GOOD INTENTIONS
BUT WE CALMLY KNOCKED THEM BACK THIS YEAR
‘CAUSE WE’RE ON OUR “OLD AGE PENSIONS.”
