I am not an armourer I served in the RAAF from 1980-1990 as a Radio Communications Technician and suffered an accident which damage to my left lung and now some chemical related complications. I was wondering if any of your associates may be able to help. I am trying to identify the chemical, it was widely used in technical workshops to remove flux from solder joints.. it was green in colour and dispenced from a small white container, following my accident it was removed from service. My accident happened over 18 years ago and although the RAAF have admitted my right to compensation I am unable to have anyone tell me what it may be.

Scary censored!!!! I'm still in and I've become the people me and Darky used to hang censored on. I remember the censored we used to do to Jock all those years ago at 77SQN and now I'm sitting in his seat (Laugh).Ran into Blue Davo the other day at Clarence Town. He's doing well and comes up water-skiing regularly. Drank heaps of censored and caught up on old times. He asked me to say hi to everyone. A lot of names of people I haven't seen for years and it will be good to catch up. Nino Watson. Anyone know where he is!!!

Great site! Interesting to see what people are up to now. Got out in 99, did a degree in computing - never looked back! Different life from being a Gunnie at the moment, let alone being in the military. I worked at Ansett (in QA) for 3 months then they collapsed! Ended up working with them for 7 more months under administration till I found another job. I am a Technical Manager at the moment - Easiest and best promotion ever!

Your pages bring back back a lot of happy memories of my time at Laverton 542 Squadron R.A.F. 1956to59. Met Titch Inglis on a missile course at RAF Newton in 19661 (I think). I married Dorothy Dean, clerk at HQ Laverton unfortunately she died of cancer 5 years ago. She was in the 2nd WRAAF entry at Point Cook and came from WestAussi. We had a great 41years together. Miss her a lot. We went back to the UK for 5 years and returned to WA in 1964. Did everything fron Gun and Sports store to Cafe and a lot of other jobs and ended up with a little farm in Bridgetown. Loved it but got an offer to good to refuse.Spent some time in QLD. Bauple, 40acres of forrest and a great life style. Thats when we found out that Dot had cancer and she wanted to go back to WA. We lived in Shark Bay and she passed away on 16.4.98 in Carnarvon Hospital. I Was in a black hole for 6 months and was told to get away for a while. I've been in Thailand ever since. Got the Computer to fill in time and to try and find some old mates. There are only a few of us left. If any of you guys remember me drop me a line (EMail) and if you know of any other Poms from 542 I'd love to hear from them. Good luck to all. Catcha on the net. Jim.

G'day all. Just found this site while looking for St Barbara to rubbish a couple of grunt mates. Ex-appie 7th Armourers '54 - '74, took discharge from 5 Sqn and stayed in Canberra for 20 odd years last 15 as Bursar at Padua High School. Retired in '92 to continue farming cashmere goats down on the coast near Bega. Retired fully 3 yrs ago and now spend most of my time between the Bega RSL Sub-branch - Treasurer/Welfare/Historical officer and the Candelo Show Society with abit of genealogy research thrown in when I get the time. It was great to see such a brilliant site and catch up with many old names and some of the old photos - well done all.

Been accessing this site for over 12 months but have never looked in the Guestbook before. Great to see so many old names again. Went to the ANZAC Day Apprentice Reunion in Wagga. I was the only Beavers (15th Intake) Gunnie. We have to do better than this. A great site full of great memories. I have offered to do raise a spreadsheet to see if Gunnie ailments can be related to jobs undertaken during service. Get your problems and jobs/chemical exposure/postings/etc into Bill R. so that they can be entered. Live in Brisbane but work in Toowoomba at present. Weekly e-mail address is Ray.Paterson-AT-usq.edu.au. Love to hear from anyone who still likes a dring and a round of golf, amoung other things

G'day Gunnies, I am a former RAF Armourer, 1957-1980. Twice while stationed at RAF Tengah, Singapore in the 1960s I was on detatched duty at RAAF Darwin. The first time was for a matter of three weeks in Sept.1961, as part of a Canberra bomb prep.team; the second time 1966/67 for four and a half months, working in a bomb dump about 10 miles down the track in the direction of Noonimah. A team of seven of us were servicing 1,000lb.HE bombs left behind by various V-Force detatchments. I've never ever forgotten the hospitality over the Christmas/New Year period when a number of the married guys took us into their homes for the complete period of the Christmas break. Darwin and the RAAF are for me still a happy memory, especially the wonderful scoff in the mess hall and the "shout for the bar" if the OO still had his hat on when he entered the wet canteen! I left regular service in 1980 in Germany, and remained in that country employed on the German economy until 1996 when I returned to the UK. I now live in Cornwall, within site of the Atlantic at RAF St.Eval and am as happy as Larry as a self-employed gardener, a lifetimes hobby. If any of you were based at Darwin during the two dates mentioned, feel free to drop me a mail. I'm going to be in Germany for the next fortnight, but I'll guarentee replies upon my return.
Go the Gunnies, Great to see so many old mates still around and at large. Anyone heard of Gunky Greg Holloway? Last i heard he was a flight looey in WA. All the best to all Specially those from the prep at Willi

G'day all, during the last few years, I have logged on to this site every night, hoping to catch up with old mates. There doesn't seem to be many of my vintage,1959 - 1984, accessing this site. What say we all log on at least once a year to give an up-date on what we are doing. I left the RAAF in 1984 after 25yrs, did 5yrs stuffing around with odd jobs, retired 7/12/2001 after 12yrs in the coal mining industry. Am currently having a go at growing lavender(an up and going venture). Socialwise, I am President of the Mudgee Sub-Branch of the RSL, and am on the board of the Mudgee Soldiers Club. Looking forward to, in a couple of weeks, celebrating my 60th. Lets get an update from you all out there in "Gunnie Land". Regards Picko

Being someone who's never served in the military but is named Barbara, I've always wanted to know why I hadn't heard of a St. Barbara or, why there wasn't a St. Barbara's day. Now, I know of her and I understand. Reading about what she stands for on your web page sheds new light for me in so many ways about myself and, this world we live in. War is a terrible thing, it tears families apart. It is a blessing and, very comforting to know that there is a saint to look over those that serve their respective nations. May God Bless us all, everyone.

Great site folks. I came as a spy!! I was a Sumpy, from 1957-1969, looking for old mates. Found a couple. Did you know there's a web site called "schoolfriends.com.au" where you can enter your unit, base etc, and find old friends? You can enter the bases you served at, ie RSTT, and select a year, to find old pardners in crime etc. Bev.

Has anyone come by Barry Kitchen and if so can u get me up to speed as to where he might be these days. Lived on mainland at 952 Robina Park next door to Spook Burns. Lots of memories there as well. Cheers and seasons greetings to all Graham
